Our goal is to ensure that the information technology environments that support and enhance all aspects of college life are delivered effectively, efficiently, and strategically, and help everyone at the college do their best work.
All successful ITS staff are known for effectively applied expertise, thoughtful attention to detail, timely and appropriately calibrated follow-up, proactive and constructive problem-solving, openness to new approaches, and for building effective partnerships and trust within ITS, across the college, and (where relevant) with external partners.
The VPIT-CIO focuses on organization-wide administrative, financial, and planning matters for ITS as a whole. The ITS Administration team includes the Vice President/Chief Information Officer, an Executive Assistant, and a Senior Project Manager. The ITS senior leadership team partners with the VPIT-CIO in the overall management of the ITS organization.

Change Management is responsible for planning, communication, and user acceptance around college-wide ITS Transformation initiatives, Workday updates and changes, and other ITS projects. They seek to build relationships and partnerships with individuals and departments across campus to foster trust and guide the community through technology changes. Change management is an ongoing process to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and prepared for new software and processes, and supported after the change.
The EADS team is responsible for managing, delivering, and improving the software applications and data infrastructure that support teaching, learning, research, and administrative processes at Smith. They have dedicated teams for major applications like Workday and Salesforce, as well as a portfolio of other software-as-a-service solutions, such as Slate, PowerFaids, The Housing Director, Moodle, etc. Their expertise in systems integration ensures accurate data flow and interoperability between different systems and applications. They are committed to providing user support by troubleshooting issues, offering technical assistance, and conducting consultations and business analysis. Their project managers lead and oversee projects related to the implementation, upgrade, or improvement of applications.
ITSS comprises a number of user-facing support areas, including ITS User Support, Classroom, Event and Media Support, Technical and Clients Services, Equipment Distribution, OneCard, and Telecommunications.
LRT is a blended department with ITS and Libraries staff that partners with students, faculty, and the broader campus community to enable innovative teaching & learning, and to foster the creation of new knowledge. They seek to sustain a culture of collaboration, growth, and scholarship, by cultivating research & technological competencies. ITS members of LRT collaborate with the Libraries on working groups and committees.
The Office of IT Risk Management (ITRM) is responsible for ITS Disaster Recovery and Incident Response, risk management, assessing and tracking risk, and cybersecurity awareness and training. The office works in collaboration with all ITS teams to ensure these functions are adopted and used effectively. ITRM also manages the college’s cybersecurity liability insurance program and participates in incident response reporting, in partnership with the office of Risk Management with the Five Colleges (FCRM).
SNS manages the Colleges server, networking and account lifecycle, and authentication services. The team is on-call 24/7 on a ‘best effort basis’ as many of our services are mission critical to the business of the College. Their primary customer is other ITS units but they also provide services to other technical groups on campus (such as the Libraries and CATS) as well as directly to community members (such as networking services and authentication).
The Business Operations team oversees hardware and software purchases for Smith College and manages the ITS departmental budget and the Smith College Computer Store.
