Since announcing in June that the Smith campus will be transitioning from Avaya to Zoom Phone for our telecommunication platform, there has been significant progress in planning the transition and performing behind-the-scenes work. Changes to phones are set to begin rolling out across campus starting next week, including replacement of campus phones in the common areas of Science Center buildings and Sage Hall. Later in October, the first group of individually-assigned phone numbers (extensions) will transition to Zoom Phone. See the Zoom Phone Project page for more information on the transition timeline, what this change means for you, and the benefits and features of Zoom Phone.
The latest Workday update includes some changes to how time-off is entered and managed, including the renaming of the task “Request Time Off” to “Request Absence” and the introduction of a Time Management Hub. A new, easy-to-use Team Absence Calendar is also available to managers as part of this release. We encourage everyone to review the What’s New in Workday article for important information and links.
We're thrilled to kick off the new academic year and support the Smith community with the technology you need to succeed. We encourage you to check out our curated resource pages to find essential tools and topics quickly and easily: Teaching, Learning, and Working. As we begin the semester, remember to stay vigilant about Cybersecurity—be cautious of phishing emails and make sure to use strong passwords. Also, a reminder for all faculty and staff that we will continue our weekly patching schedule for Smith-assigned computers to keep systems secure. We're here to help if you have any questions. Have a great year!
