ITS at the Neilson Library Central Service Point lends an assortment of media equipment to current Smith College students, faculty, and staff with a valid OneCard. Before some equipment can be borrowed, an annual loan agreement form may need to be completed. Borrowers assume all responsibility for equipment during their loan periods, including replacement or repair costs in the event of theft or damage.

Equipment Loans are restricted to members of the Smith College community including:
Active faculty and staff.
Currently enrolled students.
Five College and high school students enrolled in a Smith College course that requires the use of the equipment. These loans require instructor approval before the equipment can be checked out by the student. Course instructors should arrange with ITS in advance by submitting a help ticket: Go to Request Help and select Request to Borrow Equipment.
The standard loan period for digital media equipment and laptops is up to 3 days. Renewals may be approved and depend on equipment availability. For the exact due date, refer to the automated email sent shortly after checkout.
You can request an extension of your equipment loan before the due date by submitting a help ticket. See Request Help and select Request to Borrow Equipment then Extend the loan period for equipment already borrowed.
Equipment to be loaned for semester-long coursework must be arranged between the Smith instructor and ITS. Once approved, individual students can check out the equipment at the Neilson Library Central Service Point.
In the event that borrowed equipment is not returned or if the returned equipment is damaged, the borrower will be charged the repair fee or replacement cost, which may be assessed proportionately based on the age of the equipment.
Equipment is loaned on a no-cost basis, though fees for losses, damages, and late returns may apply.
Equipment is prioritized for course-related work. In the case of high demand or limited available quantities, loans may be restricted to those for academic purposes including for specific courses.
Equipment should be returned directly to the service point from which it was loaned by the due date and time.
Borrowers may request an extension of their equipment loan before the due date/time and is subject to review based upon course prioritization and other factors. See Loan Periods.
Digital media equipment for course use may be reservable in advance, depending on current inventory levels.
To request an equipment reservation, visit the Central Service Point or submit a ticket: Go to Request Help and select Request to Borrow Equipment.
Equipment cannot be reserved or renewed by phone.
Laptop chargers, headphones, media players and calculators can be loaned during all open hours.
Laptops and digital media equipment can be loaned only during ITS open hours at the Central Service Point.
Check out items at the Central Service Point on the ground floor (G level).
If problems occur with borrowed equipment, please return it and report the problem to the service desk from which the item was loaned.
