Gradescope is a grading platform that helps instructors streamline and standardize the assessment of various assignments, including handwritten homework, written exams, online quizzes, and programming projects. It allows instructors to grade consistently with rubrics, provide individualized feedback, and review analytics to better understand student performance.
On your Moodle course page, turn on Edit Mode.
In the section where you want the assignment to appear, select Add an Activity or Resource.
In the list of activities and resources, select Gradescope. The activity settings page will open.
Select the Select Content button. A Link to Moodle Assignment dialog will display with options to create a new Gradescope assignment or link to an existing one.
If this is your first time using Gradescope with this Moodle course, you will be prompted to add a new Gradescope course or link to an existing one. Select Link Course.
For a new assignment, select A new Gradescope assignment and then select Link Assignment.
Choose the assignment type, then select Next.
Enter the Assignment Name, Template Document (PDF), Release Date, Due Date, and review other assignment settings, then select Create Assignment.
For an existing assignment that is not already linked to your Moodle course, select An existing Gradescope assignment, select the name of the assignment from the drop-down menu, then select Link Assignment.
Back on the Moodle settings page, scroll to the bottom of the Moodle settings page and select Save and display.
Navigate to your Gradescope course either by following a link to a Gradescope assignment in your Moodle course or going to https://www.gradescope.com/.
In the menu on the left side, select Roster. The course roster will open.
At the bottom center, select Sync Moodle Roster (If you do not see this option, look under More ^ ).
A confirmation dialog will display. Leave the Email Notification box checked if you want students to receive a message that they’ve been added to Gradescope. Select Sync Roster. When complete, the dialog window will close and the updated roster will display.
Grades can be posted from Gradescope to Moodle after you’ve created a linked activity.
Navigate to your Gradescope assignment by following the link on your Moodle page.
In the menu on the left side, select Review Grades. The roster with student grades will display.
At the bottom center of the page, select Post Grades to Moodle. A confirmation dialog window will open. Select Post Grades. After the progress bar completes, select Close.
IMPORTANT: If you do not see the Post Grades to Moodle button, the link to your Moodle course is not complete for this assignment. You must first open the Gradescope assignment link on your Moodle page (see Link a Gradescope Activity to your Moodle Course). If you created the assignment only in Gradescope, then the link to your Moodle course is not complete.
