Smith ITS offers several types of laptop loan services depending on your circumstances, including repair, short-term, and student long-term loans. Laptop loans are subject to availability, and we cannot guarantee that a specific operating system will be available at the time of the loan request.
Smith ITS provides loaner laptops while your Smith-assigned device is undergoing diagnostics or repair service by Smith ITS technicians. Repair loaner laptop options will be discussed as part of the repair process.
Smith ITS maintains a small fleet of Apple and Dell laptops for short-term loans. The laptops are available to all active Smith community members on a first-come, first-served basis at the Central Service Point in Neilson Library. Laptops are set up with the standard campus configuration and complement of software, including standard Microsoft Office apps.
Note: Faculty and staff needing a computer for a professional conference or for a brief period of off-campus work should contact ITS as far in advance as possible to ensure adequate availability.

Smith ITS maintains a small pool of laptops for long-term loans to students with a demonstrated financial need. Laptops are typically checked out at the beginning of the academic year and can be used for the entire time at Smith. Laptop equipment must be returned prior to leaving the college. Students who do not return computer equipment are charged for the full replacement cost of the unreturned items.
