Send your print jobs from wherever you are on campus and choose from any one of Smith's FollowMe printers located across campus. Jobs wait in a virtual queue until you arrive at a printer to release them, ensuring your printouts are secure and allowing you to pick a convenient printer. Mobility Print provides the ability to print from your personal devices.
Note: Five College students, high school students enrolled in Smith courses, and alumni, please see Guest Printing.
NOTE: All Smith computers in labs and libraries already have the FollowMe virtual printers set up. Please don't install Mobility Print or additional software on these computers.
To print to Smith's printers from your personal computer or mobile device, you must set up Mobility Print.
To get started, select your device’s operating system and follow the instructions provided by the PaperCut Mobility Print Help Center. Remember to look for Smith's FollowMe printers when setting up.
Important: Check that your personal device meets the client requirements for Mobility Print.
Operating Systems
Already know how to print and having trouble? Check out the Troubleshooting section.
From a personal device: Make sure you are connected to Smith's Wi-Fi and have already set up Mobility Print and can see the FollowMe printers.
If you are on campus using a Smith computer, simply log in to the computer with your Smith account.
When using a shared workstation, always make sure you are logged into the computer with your Smith username and password and that no one else is still logged in. If necessary, log them out before logging in with your account.
Open the file you would like to print and select the Print option. On mobile devices, this may be under the share icon menu. Print options will display.
From the list of available printers, locate the FollowMe printers. Select FollowMe-BW to print to a black and white printer or FollowMe-Color to print at a color printer.
The default paper and layout options for FollowMe printers may be different from what is desired or supported by the printer. Confirm the selections, e.g., paper size, orientation, page range, and number of copies. Note: most FollowMe printers only support letter and legal size paper and are filled with standard weight paper. If you need to print on tabloid size paper, check with ITS at Neilson's Central Service Point to find the nearest printer.
Select Print to submit the job.
You may be prompted for your Smith account username and password. Enter if prompted. Important: Do not enter your full email address. This will cause an authentication error and too many attempts will lock your Smith account for 15 minutes.
Once submitted successfully, your print job will be held in the virtual queue for 72 hours. To view jobs in your queue that are pending release, visit print.smith.edu. (You can also view your printing history and stipend balance.) Don't see your print job queued? See Troubleshooting for tips.
When ready to get your printout, head to a printer to release it.
To release your job, head to one of the many printer locations on campus and locate a FollowMe-BW or FollowMe-Color printer, depending on which printer you selected when you submitted the job.
At the FollowMe printer, tap your OneCard on the card reader to log in. All of your jobs queued for that FollowMe printer (BW or Color) will be released and printed.
If you don't have your OneCard to tap to release or you wish to print only some of your pending jobs, you can use a print release station in Neilson Library, located on the first floor (L1). Alternatively, you can delete jobs pending release from your print queue at print.smith.edu
Follow the instructions posted at the station.
To release only some of your queued jobs, select specific jobs to print.
When you are done, select the log out option on the printer's display panel and confirm your action.
For in-person assistance in Neilson Library, visit the Central Service Point (CSP) IT Help Desk.
Make sure you are connected to Smith Wi-Fi (eduroam or Connect2Smith).
If you are unable to view the list of printers or nothing happens, restart the app first. If that doesn't resolve the issue, restart your device.
If using a personal device, make sure Mobility Print is set up. Try removing the FollowMe printers and adding them back. This can resolve a number of issues. Confirm that your device meets the system requirements listed on the Mobility Print setup page for your device's operating system.
An authentication error when printing often indicates an incorrect username and/or password. Make sure to enter your Smith username (not email address) and password correctly. Too many incorrect attempts will lock your account. You may need to wait 15 minutes for it to automatically unlock. (Tip: During the 15-minute lockout, do not attempt to use your Smith credentials to sign into any system. Doing so will reset the clock and you will have to wait another 15 minutes.)
Verify that your print job was queued up by going to print.smith.edu and viewing your pending jobs. If you have trouble logging in, it's likely that you've locked out your account from numerous printing attempts. See the bullet above for suggestions.
Personal firewall and VPN software can prevent the list of FollowMe printers from displaying as options, and you may need to temporarily disable/disconnect.
MacOS users: If you see a red dot indicating your job is waiting for authentication and you weren't prompted to enter your password recently, Keychain Access may have an old password stored that you will need to clear. Deleting FollowMe entries from your Keychain will allow you to enter your current password and proceed with printing. The Keychain app can be found in your Utilities folder.

Black and white printing cost 3 cents per side.
Color printing cost 20 cents per side.
Copying using Toshiba multi-function devices in the libraries costs the same as printing in black/white and color.
There is no charge for scanning documents to a file.
The printing stipend is a set amount ($35) given to Smith students every academic year to help cover the cost of printing.
All Smith students are eligible and there is no need to do anything - the stipend is automatically loaded to your student account at the beginning of the academic year.
To check your balance, go to print.smith.edu and log in with your Smith username and password.
The stipend will roll over from the fall to the spring semester, but anything left in your account at the end of the spring semester will not carry over into the summer or next fall.
Once you deplete your stipend, printing costs will use funds on your OneCard. If sufficient funds are not available, the job will error. Check your balance and add money for printing if needed.
Note that most FollowMe printers only support letter and legal size paper and all of them are filled with standard weight paper. Tabloid paper is available in one printer in Neilson Library, first floor (L1).
